The Ultimatum

It was a long time of indecision that brought us here.

So much back and forth and many years of living without

Time kept passing and we got older

As we aged the time felt fleeting

We reunited and collaborated our lives in a brief moment

After that

There was the ultimatum

How much more time would we let pass

How many more loves would we have before we signed the deal with each other

The weight was felt along with the pressure

No more time would go by without an answer

And the answer needed to be decided now

Not tomorrow

And if the decision was made to part forever

Then it would be forever goodbye

But if the decision was made to jump in

Swim in this world together

It would be a sink or swim situation

Life is scary and complicated alone

But sometimes scarier done together

Because now another has leverage on your heart

The strings could be pulled in any direction

So this is the ultimatum

Say yes and go in it without a lifeboat

Float the waters of this life

With the hope that the two of you can maneuver it

With no experience

Say no

And you'll never know

You'll just be there wondering what could have been

While you swim around with all the fish in the ocean

Trying to find someone else

Who is willing to sink or swim with you

So, what do you do...
